Web Safe Fonts: Google nennt Zahlen
Die im Mai 2010 von Google eingeführten Web Safe Fonts, mit der Seitenbetreiber unkompliziert exotische Schriftarten einbinden können, werden mittlerweile von rund 800.000 Webseiten genutzt:
Google Web Fonts now serves roughly 50 million daily requests, across roughly 800,000 unique websites and is growing at about 30% each month.
Das Besondere an den von Google bereitgestellten Fonts ist, dass diese on-the-fly per HTML- und CSS-Snippet eingebunden werden und nicht zwangsläufig im lokalen OS des Nutzers installiert sein müssen.
In about 30 seconds, you can have beautiful fonts on your pages that will render correctly in the large majority of popular modern web browsers. No longer will you need to use images or Flash to embed the font of your choice.

Das Problem ist derzeit allerdings noch die Verzögerung im Seitenaufbau – Flaschenhals ist hier leider nicht der eigene Server, sondern Googles Webslave für die Fonts und der hat in letzter Zeit leider eine ellenlange Responsezeit.
